Popular Horwich pub wrecked by May floods reopens its doors
A popular community pub wrecked by flooding has finally reopened its doors.
The Beehive Inn and Wacky Warehouse, on the Beehive roundabout, Horwich, had been closed due to lockdown restrictions at the start of this year, and could only serve customers outside after mid-April, but was due to open its indoors again on Monday, May 17.
Torrential rain struck the night before this, May 16, and caused severe flash flooding, closing many roads, and causing significant damage to homes and schools in the area. This caused the pub extensive damage delaying its reopening.
The pub's owners, Greene King, spent 'six figures' on refurbishing the pub, with the Mayor of Bolton, Linda Thomas, and Sam Ormrod, who runs local mental health charity Sam's Warriors (warr;ors) attending the grand-reopening today (November 8).
Caitlin McAllister, general manager of the Beehive Inn, said: âWe absolutely canât wait to reopen our doors to customers â" itâs been a very long six-month wait.
âWeâre thrilled to be coming back better than ever, and weâre looking forward to welcoming returning regulars â" as well as many new guests, we hope.â
The pub asked for nominations for a 'very special' local person to open the pub in a recent Facebook campaign, they were inundated with nominations for Horwich-based Sam, in recognition of the work he does within his community.
Sam's Warriors is a a local community group that helps people rediscover themselves through healthy lives and minds - by joining in with meetings, exercise and alternative therapies, such as yoga, running, walking, art and guided meditation.
The pub has been refurbished with a new look, a new menu and a completely refurbished Wacky Warehouse childrenâs play centre.
The new look pub blends traditional and modern-day décor, with a new bar.
A Greene King Pub & Carvery pub, the Beehive Inn will be serving its long-time favourites â" including its famous traditional carvery, served fresh daily, with a choice of succulent 14-hour slow-roast meats, a selection of potatoes and seasonal vegetables â" not to mentioned baked in pub Yorkshire puddings and unlimited gravy.
There are also a number of special offers on starters, as well as new additions â" such as Bucket Loads of chicken wings and boneless breaded chicken - alongside a wide selection of traditional pub meals.
There is also a newly renovated function room in the upstairs of the pub which is open for bookings now and the pub is also currently hiring for a number of positions.
The Beehive has also announced that it will be re-introducing its weekly quiz night, as well as hosting a number of festive live music nights in the near future.
