In the dock 11 people sentenced by magistrates

A SUSPENDED prison sentence has been handed to a man who assaulted a police officer in Kearsley. Nathan Marland, aged 22, of Scott Street, Radcliffe, admitted committing the offence on December 8, 2019. He was sentenced to 20 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months, must undertake 200 hours of unpaid work and participate in 12 days of rehabilitation activities. Marland was ordered to pay £250 in compensation to the officer.

A MAN who drove a Mazda 6 on Lightwood Close, Farnworth on December 11 last year when it had no MoT has been fined £220. Mreza Taheri, aged 41, of Argo Street, Bolton, was also ordered to pay £124 in costs.

A MAN who used the wrong coloured bulbs in the side lights of a VW Bora has been fined £100. Magistrates heard that the lightbulbs should be white but Steven Kent, aged 38, of Kingsfold Close, Bolton, used orange ones when he drove the vehicle on Folds Road, Bolton on December 22 last year. He admitted the offence and also using a vehicle where he could not see properly out of the front nearside window.

A VAN driver who had no insurance has been fined £660. The court heard that Martin Lawson, aged 38, of Falkland Road, Bolton, committed the offence when driving a VW Crafter on Bury Road, Bolton, on December 22 last year. Six points were added to his licence.

A MAN who attacked a police officer has been fined £400. Tremaine Maloney, age 23, of Arundel Street, Bolton, pleaded guilty to assaulting the officer in Bolton on June 4. He was ordered to pay £50 in compensation to his victim.

A DRUG addict who harassed two women, visiting their homes and demanding money, has been given a community sentence. Geoffrey Greenwood, aged 35, of Bury Road, Bolton, stalked one woman between July 4 and 15, following her and acting aggressively. And he turned up at another woman’s home on July 5 harassing her for money. Greenwood pleaded guilty to stalking and harassment and was fined £80 and ordered to participate in a drug treatment programme plus 20 days of rehabilitation activities. A restraining order was made banning him from contacting his victims or going to Pixmore Avenue, Dunoon Drive or Castle Hill Street.

A MAN who damaged a woman’s possessions has been sentenced to a conditional discharge for 12 months. Samuel Crompton, aged 33, of Green Lane, Horwich, admitted destroying the woman’s TV, iPad, a box of baby milk and a car wing mirror on March 12.

A MAN caught with fraudulent bus tickets worth £1,264 has been electronically tagged. Soyab Mitha, aged 34, of Blackburn Road, Bolton, pleaded guilty to the fraud offence and to using threatening behaviour towards Manchester bus station staff on April 29. He was sentenced to a 7pm to 7am curfew for eight weeks and ordered to participate in 15 days of rehabilitation activities.

MAGISTRATES have fined a man £220 after he drove a Mercedes on Beverley Road, Bolton, on January 26, when a headlight was not working. The case against Naeem Arshad, aged 41, of Beverley Road, Bolton, was proved.

A PENSIONER caught in charge of a car having drunk double the legal level of alcohol has been fined £80. John Hart, aged 68, of Ivy Road, Bolton, admitted committing the offence in a Suzuki Celerio on Gilnow Lane, Bolton, on June 13. Magistrates added 10 penalty points to his licence.

A MOTORIST caught travelling at 55mph on the motorway at Trafford when the limit was restricted to 40mph, has been banned from driving for three years. Sufian Vaka, aged 34, of Gilnow Lane, Bolton, was driving a BMW on the Trafford stretch of the M60 on November 26 last year. Magistrates heard that he had a history of repeated driving offences and so a ban was obligatory. The case against Vaka was proved and he was fined £220.
